Dr. Nurul Akmar is an Associate Professor in Software Engineering Department. She begins her career in academic in 2002, where she joined Kolej Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (KUTKM) (which later called as Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) in 2003) as a tutor at the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology. In 2004, she was appointed as a lecturer; in 2011 she becomes a senior lecturer after successfully completing her PhD at the University of Manchester. In 2017, she was promoted as Associate Professor.

At undergraduate level, she mainly teaches database-related subjects such as Database Design, Database Programming, Multimedia Database and Advanced Database Programming. At postgraduate level teaches Algorithm Analysis and Database Programming. She also supervises a number of undergraduates (and postgraduates) projects.

Her research interests are in data/information quality, big data management, bioinformatics, databases, data security, database storage optimization and in-database analytics. She is looking forward for research collaborators and postgraduate students who have similar interests to work on research projects.
