This competition tests participants' mastery of database concepts in terms of entity-relationship diagram (ERD) modeling, normalization and SQL query language to solve data management problems in the community.
The following are the rules and requirements for the DbFiesta 2023 poster and video contest.
This competition is open to all undergraduate students of public and private higher education institutions such as matriculation, colleges, polytechnics and universities.
Participation is in group form with each group consisting of three (3) students.
Each group must have a mentor or escort.
The number of competing groups is limited. Participation will be closed if the number of groups is sufficient. However, if there are still vacancies, participation will be opened to institutions that wish to send more than one group.
Competition format
The competition is a challenge to test knowledge related to database design. The question is divided into two parts:
Part A: ERD and normalization (30 minutes, objective/multiple choice questions, 20 questions)
Participants are required to answer Part B questions (subjective) using Oracle syntax
Participants can use printed and bound reference materials such as books and notes during the competition. However, the use of any electronic reference is NOT permitted.
Participants are NOT allowed to communicate with outside parties or participants from other groups (including the use of any communication tool).
Participants are NOT allowed to leave the competition venue during the duration of the competition
The competition will be judged by judges from outside and inside UTeM
The jury panel is given the responsibility to evaluate each answer given by each team and then determine the winner. The decision of the jury panel is final. Any appeals will not be entertained.
The Organizing Committee has the right to amend any conditions of the competition without any prior notice.
The competition will be held at the Technical University of Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), Durian Tunggal, Melaka.
All transportation and accommodation costs are covered by participants.
